Who we are

JR East is a passenger railway company that manages and operates railways, such as high-speed rail (Shinkansen), urban rail, and regional rail, and its infrastructure in eastern Japan. We provide high-frequency, safe, and reliable transportation services, including the Tokyo metropolitan area, that are used by approximately 16 million passengers every day.

Not only railway operation, we have also been developing businesses that lead to Lifestyle Solutions for customers, such as retail, restaurants, shopping centers, real estate, offices and hotels.
We will offer rich lifestyles for global markets by using our technologies and experience in each field and packaging our mobility services and lifestyle solutions services to match the needs of each country.

Our Strengths

The JR East Group considers “Safety” its main management priority. Japan is frequently affected by various natural disasters, which have been intensifying of late, and we are using this experience and knowledge to promote research and development related to disaster management. We are also focusing on developing smart maintenance and environmentally friendly railways by introducing the cutting-edge technologies. Through these efforts, we are seeking to increase the “Trust” of our customers and local communities.

Business Area

Making use of the experiences we have acquired in Japan up to date, we are developing a variety of global businesses, primarily in Asia, together with our group companies, including Japan International Consultants for Transportation (JIC)Opens in a new window, such as by supporting the opening of the Indian High-Speed Rail, providing rolling stock and maintenance services for the MRT Purple Line in Thailand, and providing technical support to a railway operator in Indonesia.
