Welcome Suica Mobile Privacy Policy

This Welcome Suica Mobile Privacy Policy (hereinafter this “Policy") sets out the manner in which East Japan Railway Company (hereinafter "JR East") will handle information regarding users (hereinafter the “User”) of the Welcome Suica Mobile app (hereinafter this "App").

1.Application of this Policy

This Policy provides supplementary rules of JR East’s Privacy Policy (hereinafter the “Basic Policy"). Any matters that are not addressed in this Policy will be handled in accordance with the Basic Policy (including the country-specific sections).

2.Information collected or processed by JR East

JR East will collect or process the following information about the User of this App.

  1. (1) Information on user management:
    • - Unique number assigned to the User upon initial charging to the Suica of this App;
    • - Secret Keyword set and provided by the User for identification purposes in case of an inquiry.
  2. (2) Information on transactions:
    • - Information on the settlement results when the User charging to the Suica of this App using Apple Pay (Noted, any information such as the credit card number registered in Apple Pay will be processed in a tokenized state, thereby preventing this App or JR East from obtaining such information);
    • - History of transportation and electronic money use in Japan with the Suica of this App, including date, time, transaction type (transportation or electronic money), entry and exit records of station ticket gates, transaction amount and remaining balance.
  3. (3) Geographic information:
    • - Information about the country of residence that the User will provide voluntarily.
  4. (4) Location Information:
    The following information will be temporarily processed on the User’s device only when the User has consented to its processing by clicking the pop-up on the User’s device, thus preventing JR East from obtaining such information.
    • - Location information (latitude, longitude and mobile base station data) of the User at a specific point in time, when the User is charging to the Suica of this App or purchasing railway passes;
    • - ISO code indicating the country or region where the User is located, which will be returned from Apple API by analyzing the location information above. Noted, this location information will only be processed to determine whether the acceptance of funds is permitted by law, and will not be used continuously.

3.Purpose of process of the User’s information

  1. (1) Information listed in paragraphs (1) and (2) of Article 2 of this Policy:
    • - To provide the services of this App to the User (charging the Suica, transportation use, and electronic money functions);
    • - To respond to the User’s inquiries about this App;
    • - To analyze trends in the use of this App and generate statistical data without identifying specific users.
  2. (2) Information listed in paragraph (3) of Article 2 of this Policy:
    • - To analyze trends in the use of this App and generate statistical data and analyze trends in the use of this App without identifying specific users.
  3. (3) Information listed in paragraph (4) of Article 2 of this Policy:
    • - To ensure compliance with laws and regulations in the country or region where the User is located;
    • - For necessity for the performance of a contract relating to the provision of the services of this App to the User.

4.Provision of the User’s information to third parties

Any information listed Article 2 of this Policy, which will be collected or processed by JR East, will not be provided to any third party except in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations in Japan.

5.The User’s rights

Notwithstanding Clause 8 of the Basic Policy, JR East will not respond to any request for disclosure, correction, addition, or deletion of the information listed in Article 2 of this Policy which will be collected or processed by JR East, because it is impossible to identify a specific individual.

6.Withdrawal of consent

Apart from the right to withdraw your consent in accordance with Clause 8 of the Basic Policy, the User may withdraw consent for the process of the information listed in paragraph (4) of Article 2 of this Policy by operating the User’s device, provided that additional charges or purchases of railway passes cannot be made to the Suica of this App afterward.
