At JR East, we have developed and put into use a Visualization System for Congestion on Conventional Lines, which allows dispatchers responsible for managing train operation to be aware of congestion conditions in real time. Dispatchers use this system to account for train congestion conditions when managing operation. We are currently expanding the functions of the system and are also developing a Visualization System for Congestion in Stations.

The Visualization System for Congestion in Stations makes it possible to estimate and display the congestion status of station platforms and concourses based on train congestion and delay information and information from ticket gates. Using this function allows the provision of high-quality transportation services that take safety on crowded platforms into account.
