Development of an Advanced Train Operation System 

The depot creates an operation plan for trains and supports daily train operation. Plans for tasks such as inspection and cleaning are also created in addition to the operation plan, however, time and location limitations and inspection deadlines need to be carefully managed. This work was mainly carried out through sending of paper documents and relied on human attentiveness during transport disruption, which placed a heavy burden on workers.

We have developed a Tokyo area train operation system that supports overall train operation by creating a database of operation tables and operation schedules used on site and connecting the operation plan information, service management information, and train tracking information held on each system. In FY2018, this system was introduced at the Kozu Rolling Stock Center and Oyama Rolling Stock Center.

Meanwhile, as service management and train tracking information on regional lines cannot be acquired in the same way as for the Tokyo area, the possibility of implementing a system that uses GPS or similar technologies for these areas is currently being assessed.
