Technological Development for Large-scale Shinkansen Renovations 

The Tohoku (Tokyo -Morioka) and Joetsu (Omiya -Niigata) Shinkansen will undergo 10 years of extensive renovations starting in FY2031 (50 years from first being opened) with the goal of extending their life span for around fifty more years. In terms of technological development, in addition to gaining a reliable understanding of the conditions and developing materials and construction methods that will realize the desired effects, we are also conducting research into effective analysis methodologies, optimization of renovation designs, and more efficient construction planning and management. We are also employing open innovation in the development of construction methods.
