The Hokuriku Shinkansen was partially opened as the “Nagano Shinkansen” in 1997, running between Tokyo and Nagano.
The E7 series runs between Tokyo and Tsuruga. The section from Nagano to Kanazawa opened in 2015, and the extension from Kanazawa to Tsuruga opened in 2024.
The following train types operate on the Hokuriku Shinkansen.
This Shinkansen train was developed for the opening of the Hokuriku Shinkansen Kanazawa on March 14, 2015. The improvements for passenger comfort include fully Western-style toilets with heated bidet functionality and electrical outlets on every seat in all cars, including ordinary cars. The interior design also features improved accessibility, with Braille lettering on the seats and ostomate equipment in the multipurpose lavatories. Cameras were installed in the aisles in addition to the inside the cars and in the end sections near the doors as a security measure.
