JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass

Recommended for travel to a wide range of places between Hakodate and Tokyo and the surrounding area!

  • JR EAST (including BRT*)
  • JR Hokkaido Lines (Hakodate, Sapporo, Otaru area)
  • Izu Kyuko Line
  • Tokyo Monorail
  • Aoimori Railway Line
  • Iwate Galaxy Railway (IGR) Line
  • Sendai Airport Transit Line
  • Reserved seats in ordinary cars of the following express trains with through operations between JR EAST and Tobu Railway lines: Nikko, Kinugawa, and SPACIA Kinugawa trains.
  • You can also use regular trains (including rapid trains) from Shimo-imaichi to Tobu-nikko and Kinugawa-onsen on the Tobu Railway line.
    Between Kurihashi and Shimo-imaichi, you can only use limited express trains that run through to Tobu Railway. **
  • BRT refers to a Bus Rapid Transit system.
  • The only limited express trains you can use with the JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass are through trains from JR lines to Tobu Railway lines. You cannot use limited express trains whose first and last stations are Tobu Railway stations.

Please note

  • You cannot use the JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass to travel on the Tokaido Shinkansen. (Because the Tokaido Shinkansen is operated by a different company)
  • Gala Yuzawa Station only operates during the winter and spring.​ ​
  • You cannot use the South Hokkaido Railway Line.

How much can I save?

E.g. Return trip between Tokyo Station and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station

The round trip fare for an adult on the Hokkaido Shinkansen (Tokyo Station to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station) with a reserved seat is about ¥44,000.

With a JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass, you can take the journey for
¥35,000 and you can also get on and off at stations along the way!

Please note

  • The age of a child is defined as the age on the date of purchase. A passport or other such document is required to prove a child’s age.
  • Children under 6 years old who do not require seat reservations do not need a pass.
  • A separate fee is applicable if you wish to use the Green Car or GranClass.
  • Youth fares (including student discount) are not offered for this pass.
  • You can only use one JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass at a time while travelling in Japan. (You cannot purchase two of the same type of pass if their validity periods overlap)
