To ensure a safe, convenient riding environment for all passengers, JR East has an active accessibility program for updating the facilities in its stations. Measures including installing elevators, building wheelchair ramps and embedding tactile paving tiles for the visually impaired, a part of JR East’s commitment to innovation and service excellence.
JR East has updated and redesigned many of our restrooms to provide accessibility for wheelchair passengers and passengers traveling with children.
Advanced ticket machines provide guidance in English. The convenient touch screen makes it easy to purchase most tickets and add money to Suica cards.
The JR East priority seating policy gives priority to seats on all cars to the elderly, people with disabilities, people with children and pregnant women. For easy identification, pregnant women often carry a special maternity icon.
Stations are equipped with full-color LED displays, showing train information including destinations and departure times.
