Completion of Function Checks at Shinanogawa Power Plant

East Japan Railway Company

June 29, 2010

On June 9, 2010, the Shinanogawa Power Plant (collective name for the Senju, Ojiya and Shin-Ojiya power plants) of the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) received authorization for special-purpose river water rights under Article 23 of the River Law and started power generation on the same day. Since then, we have been checking the functioning of facilities that had not been used since the cessation of water intake. On June 28, function checks were completed for all facilities, and this is to announce that, as of today, we have started power generation using all the regulating ponds.
Hereafter, JR East commits itself not only to carefully manage river flow and water intake in accordance with the law, but also to sustain plant operations in harmony with the environment of the Shinanogawa River and to cooperate with the local community. We will strive with heartfelt sincerity to achieve these purposes.
