Ridership During the Golden Week Period
—Comparing 11-day period (Thu, April 28 - Sun, May 8) to same dates during previous year—

- There were delays on the Tohoku and Yamagata Shinkansen on May 8 due to strong winds. Other line sections operated largely as planned.
- Ridership on JR East Shinkansen, limited express and express trains during the period was 2,863,000 passengers, or 73% of the ridership of the same period a year earlier, our biggest year-to-year drop for the period since the founding of JR East.
- The outbound peak was reached on May 3 and the return peak on May 5.
- The number of short-distance tickets sold was 96% of the number the previous year.
- On the Tohoku Shinkansen, operations had been postponed on some sections because of the impact of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake, but operations had resumed throughout the line as of April 29.
