"Hayabusa" Express Train Charges and GranClass Charge

East Japan Railway Company

November 11, 2010

The "Hayabusa" will debut on the Tohoku Shinkansen March 5, 2011. The “Hayabusa” will travel between Tokyo and Shin-Aomori in just 3 hours and 10 minutes (fastest train). Seats in all cars are by reservation.
East Japan Railway Company (JR East) applied today to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to set express train charges for the "Hayabusa" to take effect when service begins. The express train charges for major sections are 7,000 yen from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori, 5,110 yen from Tokyo to Sendai and 4,810 yen from Sendai to Shin-Aomori (adult passenger, reserved seat during normal season).
We have additionally set charges for the new Shinkansen grade, "GranClass," and today notified the relevant transportation bureau director. The charge for using "GranClass" will be 19,380 yen from Tokyo to Sendai and 26,360 yen from Tokyo to Shin-Aomori (this is the total of the basic fare, express train charge and "GranClass" charge).
