Odoriko (E257 series)
- Odoriko (for Ito):
Tokyo/Shinjuku/Ikebukuro to Izukyu-Shimoda - Odoriko (for Shuzenji):
Tokyo/Shinjuku/Ikebukuro to Shuzenji
- *Departure and arrival stations depend on the train
The Odoriko is a limited express train with reserved seats that connects the metropolitan area with the Izu peninsula. The Ito route goes from Atami Station to Ito, Kawazu, and Izukyu-Shimoda, while the Shuzenji route goes through the Mishima and Shuzenji areas.
These trains feature the redesigned interior for the E257 series that launched in 2021 for a more comfortable ride with barrier-free facilities. The train’s peninsula blue palette is inspired by the blues found in Izu’s skies and ocean. We hope you have a pleasant ride on your journey to Izu.

Sightseeing in Izu
- * * The passes offered by JR-EAST cannot be used between Atami Station and Shuzenji Station.
(They can be used within the area outlined in green.)
Atami
The train ride from Tokyo Station to Atami Station on the Odoriko takes 1 hour and 20 minutes.
As you walk around Atami, you’ll notice jets of steam along the roads from the “seven Atami springs.” The slightly alkaline hot spring water is gentle on the skin and sees many visitors throughout the year.
Wind down after a long journey watching the Atami Firework Festival from your hotel, gazing out over Jukkoku Pass, from which you can see from Mt. Fuji all the way to the Boso area of Chiba in the distance, or visiting the famous power spot at Kinomiya Shrine.
Kawazu
The train ride from Tokyo Station to Kawazu Station on the Odoriko takes 2 hours and 36 minutes.
Kawazu is famous for “Kawazu-zakura” cherry blossoms. They bloom earlier than Yoshino cherry blossoms, creating a rich pink vale of flowers in mid-February. One highlight is the sight of 850 cherry blossom trees in bloom along the Kawazu River. There is an hour-long trail that goes by the “seven waterfalls of Kawazu,” which are the stage of Yasunari Kawabata’s famous novel “The Dancing Girl of Izu.” Kawazu is also famous for wasabi grown in the streams of Amagi, so local wasabi dishes are a must try.
Izukyu-Shimoda
The train ride from Tokyo Station to Izukyū-Shimoda Station on the Odoriko takes 2 hours and 49 minutes.
The town of Shimoda lies along the southeast border of the Izu peninsula and is surrounded by the natural beauty of mountains and the ocean.
The area is known for its gorgeous views of emerald green waters and white sandy beaches.
Shimoda also boasts the largest harvest of golden eye snapper in Japan thanks to the bountiful sea. Try some at one of the local restaurants.
As Japan’s first port to reopen to the world, Shimoda is full of cultural and historical remnants from the Bakumatsu period, including Perry Road and the Black Ship Festival.
Shuzenji
The train ride from Tokyo Station to Shuzenji Station (near Izu’s oldest hot spring Shuzenji Onsen) on the Odoriko takes 2 hours and 8 minutes.
The ancient temple of Shuzenji is said to have been founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in 807.
It contains treasures connected to the shogunate active during the Kamakura period. Visitors can enjoy walking on a bamboo forest path that runs along the Katsura River, which flows through the center of the hot spring town, enjoying the breeze on the large circular bamboo bench midway through the path. The path is illuminated at night, so we recommend visiting for an evening stroll.
