POINT1
When you get off at JR Ōmagari Station, you will find the tourist information center "Grand Pole" on the premises. It provides tourist information on Daisen City and other parts of Akita Prefecture, and also serves as a rest area, souvenir shop, and restrooms. Smartphones can be charged in the rest area, so it can also be used as a waiting area. The souvenir shop mainly sells specialty products of Daisen City.
There is a souvenir shop on the premises that sells a wide variety of goods related to the Omagari Fireworks. Due to its location, it attracts many tourists, and is especially busy the week before and after the summer Omagari Fireworks. Sake made in Daisen City is very popular, and each brewery's famous sake is lined up at the entrance. You can easily compare the different varieties using the coin-operated server, so please use it as a reference for choosing your product.
The coin-operated sake server is popular with tourists. It offers a seasonal lineup of six carefully selected sake varieties from breweries in Daisen City, and you can enjoy a comparison tasting of three glasses (30ml to 50ml each) for 500 yen. It is also nice that it is accompanied by detailed information about each brewery and its famous sake. It is available from 10:00 to 18:30, and you can purchase a special coin at the cash register in the shop.
There are so many Omagari Fireworks related goods that you will have a hard time choosing. There is a wide variety of items, including popular towels, clothing items such as T-shirts and ties, daily necessities such as pouches and coasters, stationery, and unique mock fireworks. The "Fireworks Fan with Case," which is popular among foreign tourists, is a lovely design with a fireworks pattern on hand-dyed Yuzen washi paper, making it a great item to have in the summer.
POINT 2
"Sumiraku" is a horumon specialty store located at the entrance of "Hanabi-dori Shopping Street" Ōmagari Station. Fans from all over the country visit the store after their "Popular 5-Kind Hormone Platter" won first place at the "Echizen Oono Tonchan Festival," which decides the best horumon. They are particular about the freshness of their food, purchasing beef and pork killed that morning from the slaughterhouse and having veteran chefs quickly prepare the ingredients.
They only use pork innards from Akita Prefecture. They marinated it in a special salt sauce that brings out the flavor of the ingredients, so we recommend grilling it and eating it as is. The most popular "Mixed Hormones" is an assortment of the classic salted horumon (gizzard shank) and premium horumon (teppou). The chewy gizzard and the soft terupou, which gets tastier the more you chew it, are sure to be a repeat order!
Other popular dishes on the pork innards menu include the "Korikori 3 Kyodai" which is an assortment of korikori (hyoid bone), donut (throat cartilage) and urute (aorta), and "sagari" which is meat from the diaphragm. There are a variety of cuts available and all are reasonably priced, so be careful not to eat too much. Enjoy grilling them on a charcoal grill until fragrant.
POINT3
Also on the Hanabi-dori Shopping Street is Minka, a general goods store that uses a historic building. The store owner has selected a wide range of products over two floors, from kitchen tools to everyday items, fabric accessories, and furniture, hoping that customers will find quality items to use in their daily lives. Spending time browsing the products is as exciting as a treasure hunt.
We also stock a large number of handcrafted items by artists in Akita Prefecture. Glassware from "Seikou Glass" in Daisen City is a popular item with fans all over the country. Recently, we have stocked pottery by Kagaya Miki, who is a potter in the same city.
"I buy unique items, or items that I love and want to sell," says the store owner, whose selection reflects his passion for the store. The store is filled with items that are functionally beautiful and comfortable to use, so you can see, touch, and discover items that will last you a lifetime. Come to Minka, which has a retro atmosphere, and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with an item that makes your heart flutter.
POINT4
MILK HOUSE is a long-established coffee shop on the Hanabi-dori Shopping Street. It has long been a popular place for students to drop by on their way home from school, and for people returning home from other parts of Japan to reminisce about it. It is a place loved by people of all ages and genders.
They offer food that can only be found at a coffee shop, such as doria, curry, and pilaf, and locals frequent the restaurant in search of the same flavor that has remained unchanged since the restaurant first opened. The sweet and rich flavor of their "Neapolitan," served on a sizzling hot iron plate, is so good you'll never forget it once you've had it. Don't worry about your mouth turning red as you stuff your cheeks with it.
They also have a wide variety of drinks and parfaits. The "Iced Cafe au Lait" with plenty of fresh cream on top goes surprisingly well with the "Neapolitan", so be sure to order them together. The owner himself recommends this combination! The cafe au lait wraps the richness of the Neapolitan in a mild flavor. We recommend mixing the fresh cream well before enjoying it.
POINT5
"Tsujiya" has been making Japanese sweets in Daisen City for over 150 years since the end of the Edo period. They offer a variety of famous sweets, each one made by hand without using preservatives or synthetic additives. They are famous for "Tofu Kamaboko", a local sweet that is neither tofu nor kamaboko and has long been popular mainly in the southern part of Akita Prefecture, and "Sanbai Mochi", a rice cake sweet.
The store's display cases are lined with popular items such as "Tofu Kamaboko" and "Sanbai Mochi," as well as other popular local favorites such as the three-colored Sanbai Mochi dumplings "Fufufu Dango," and "Ageman," a deep-fried doughnut filled with white bean paste. Some of these products are also sold at the tourist information center "Grand Pole" mentioned at the beginning of this article.
Sanbai Mochi is especially popular among overseas visitors. It comes in four varieties: red bean paste, white bean paste, sesame bean paste, and matcha bean paste. It looks like yokan, but the bean paste is kneaded by hand to give it a sticky, soft texture, with a hint of saltiness amidst the sweetness.
Please also enjoy our "Tofu Kamaboko" which can be purchased in bite-sized pieces that are easy to eat. The tofu is made from 100% Akita Prefecture-grown "Ryuho" soybeans, and is squeezed by hand before being hand-rolled with white fish and other ingredients and steamed. It has a chewy and fluffy texture and a slightly sweet taste, with the flavor of soy filling your mouth.
One of the joys of traveling is finding your favorite local delicacy or souvenir. Enjoy the local delicacies and souvenirs along with the spectacular fireworks in Daisen City, the city of fireworks.
