In JR East, we implement study abroad program, such as, long-term study in graduate school and short-term study such as language improvement program overseas. We also joined in OJT(on the job training) program to work on railway consulting.
I got my master's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. It was a precious experience where I studied emerging technologies such as IoT, AI, and so on at a University that attracts many excellent students from all over the world. Living at a foreign country was also a precious experience that gave me a great confidence.
I studied train technology at University of Birmingham in UK. In this course, we can learn not only about electric power and signals, but also about railways in general, such as rolling stock, track maintenance, and train management, and we have to write a master's thesis. It was a fresh and great experience which I can see our job as a study, while also being able to see our company and Japan from the perspective of outside Japan.
In 2018, three employees from our office visited France, Canada and America respectively for overseas training. They had studied English at the language school for three months from January to April, and then followed by company visits, street interview and so on.
This training program had stopped for several years, but it will be restarted from 2023.
I had visited southeast Asia countries as a trainee for overseas on the job training where I joined the train equipment upgrade project. In the electric power apects, we mainly carry out construction work that supplies power to train equipment such as stations and traffic lights. In my 2 months visit, I experienced rewarding, joyful and challenging moments while building train equipment in the foreign country and communicating with the employees and construction contractors. I’m going to improve myself so that I can become an employee who can be involved in various businesses in Japan and overseas.
