In JR East, we are promoting the "Haneda Airport Access Line Concept," which enables direct access from various directions by making effective use of our Tokyo metropolitan area railway network. As part of this initiative, the "New Access Line" (between Tokyo Freight Terminal and Haneda Airport New Station) will receive a railway business license based on Article 3 of the Railway Business Act, and the "Higashiyamate Route" (between near Tamachi Station and Tokyo Freight Terminals), we have started environmental impact assessment procedures. With the development of this section, it will be possible to shorten the travel time from the Tokyo area (Utsunomiya Line, Takasaki Line, Joban Line) to Haneda Airport, enabling "seamless movement" that is mentioned in the our Group's management vision.
In this project, Electrical System Integration Office is in charge of the survey, project management, design and construction management, and other aspects electrical train system.
Currently, I am a member of the Construction Management Department and am responsible for project management tasks. The responsibilities of project management are diverse, including managing the overall project schedule and budget, coordinating and consolidating various specialized team within ESIO (Electrical power supply system team, Train control system team, communication system team, etc.), and serving as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders for coordination and discussions.
The development of the Haneda Airport Access Line is an extremely important project for our company as it enhances Japan's international competitiveness and contributes to society. One of its characteristics is the involvement of various stakeholders, requiring coordination with specialists in each field of ESIO, as well as people from the headquarters and branch offices. Additionally, we need to engage in discussions with national and local governments, as well as other railway operators, to advance the project. Therefore, a significant portion of my work involves coordinating meetings and negotiations.
While the Haneda Airport Access Line project will transition from the planning phase to the construction phase, I expect that numerous challenges will arise as the construction progresses. In such situations, as the project management coordinator, I will connect stakeholders from various specialized teams, work together as a team to address the challenges encountered, and ensure the smooth progress of the project.
I am currently part of the Signal system Unit, where I am responsible for the planning construction related to the train control system. Specifically, I handle tasks such as creating various specifications and charts for the Tamachi Station improvement project and the Haneda Airport Access Line project, as well as coordinating with relevant parties for construction procurement and issue resolution. In particular, I am also in charge of the design documents used for construction, which also serve as instructions for train control. These design documents contain information about the control processes within the train control system.. Since the creation of these specifications directly impacts the safety of train control, we engage in thorough discussions among teams members and partners, and carefully consider risks while developing them.
At Tamachi Station, various projects are progressing simultaneously, so we have to always taka care about ever-changing conditions on-site. Additionally, when challenges arise during construction, it is crucial to quickly coordinate with supervisory departments and partners, like construction companies, to address them. Particularly, station improvement projects involve collaboration among multiple parties, and we continuously work together, sharing ideas and striving for innovative solutions to advance the construction.
The Haneda Airport Access Line project is a massive undertaking with numerous considerations to be made. We must overcome challenges within limited timeframes, and there are moments of high pressure. However, as a train control system engineer, I take pride in contributing to the operation of metropolitan train services and being involved as a planner in the construction of a new railway network. I am enthusiastic in carrying out my daily tasks.
I am a member of Communication Department of the Shinagawa Electric System Construction District, and am currently in charge of supervising communication work associated with the improvement of Shimbashi Station, Tamachi Station, and Musashi-Kosugi Station, as well as the relocation work of the Haneda Airport Access Line project (tentative name). Communication equipment is an important facility that provides a wide range of services, including passenger services such as information broadcasts to customers, in-house infrastructure, safe and stable transportation such as digital train radio and PreDAS (Prevention of Disaster Alarm System), and security equipment such as security cameras in stations.
When developing the Haneda Airport Access Line, it is first necessary to relocate existing communication facilities that will interfere other facilities. When relocating communication equipment, it must be carried out so as not to affect the work of station employees and other users who handle business equipment. In addition, it is necessary to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders in advance regarding the time and scope of obstacles, and then disseminate the necessary information and procedures. Therefore, the ability to smoothly coordinate operations is required. Large-scale relocation work in particular is a highly difficult project because it requires coordination with many stakeholders. In order to meet the expectations of customers who are eagerly awaiting the opening of the Haneda Airport Access Line, we will strive for daily supervision work with pride and a sense of responsibility.
I am a member of overhead catenary system department of the electric power unit, and I am in charge of the design of overhead catenary equipment. A catenary line is a facility for sending electricity to a train and is characterized by being stretched above the tracks. We calculate the strength of equipment so that trains can operate safely, conduct technical studies such as whether the required electrical capacity is met, and perform general ordering operations such as calculating construction costs. Sometimes it is difficult to do the variety of studies and many coordination work simultaneously, but with the help of my colleagues, I am steadily solving them one by one.
The Haneda Airport Access Line Project is a large-scale construction project and has many challenges to solve. Since there are a wide range of people involved, it is a challenge to get people from other departments to understand the situation of overhead catenary equipment. On the other hand, when a facility is completed in cooperation with many people, I feel a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. In this project, we will build new facilities in vacant land. It is a valuable experience and I am proud to be in charge of the work that remains on the map. Train line facilities is an important part of the system that supports train operation as an unsung hero (behind the scenes?) . I work hard every day with a sense of mission.
I have been a member of the power distribution team since joining the company. Currently, I’m responsible for the construction for Tokyo freight terminal area as a designer.
Power distribution equipment includes equipment that supplies power between substation and power distribution substation or station (Example : Lights , power outlet, etc.)
While the numerous equipment that I developed aren’t visible by customers directly, it is important for train operation. With the new line construction in Haneda access line project comes challenging tasks such as capacity of station, consideration of power supply for equipment in tunnel and equipment relocation or removal in relation to the construction. It is important and challenging to optimize the workflow by adjusting work with station team, rail line team and other electrical team. Sometimes, the work will not go as my team planned. But it’s our shared goal to offer more convenient service for customers with the completion of Haneda access line, so we are doing our best to complete it. I will continue to do my best to offer best service for our customers.
