Sazanami and Wakashio

Sazanami and Wakashio

Operating along the Boso Peninsula are the Sazanami train on the Uchibo Line and the Wakashio on the Sotobo Line. The Boso Peninsula runs north-south, forming the eastern border of Tokyo Bay. The Uchibo Line (uchi meaning "inside") runs on the Tokyo Bay side toward Kimitsu, while the Sotobo Line (soto meaning "outside") operates on the Pacific Ocean side, generally carrying business and leisure travelers to Awa-Kamogawa Station. The Sazanami and the Wakashio are painted in blue, white and yellow, representing a Boso Peninsula motif for the blue sea, white sand and yellow aburana (rapeseed) flowers. Both trains depart from the underground platform at Tokyo Station, so care should be taken to make sure the correct train is boarded.

Minami Boso
Jutting out into the Pacific Ocean, the Minami or Southern Boso Peninsula area has a mild climate, with little temperature variation through the year. Spring arrives a shade quicker than Tokyo, making it a pleasurable place to come and pick aburana and poppies as well as strawberries and other fruit. The seafood of Minami Boso is also well known, particularly the abalone and shellfish. The theme parks, including Kamogawa Sea World, are a popular draw, particular for families.
Access: Take the Uchibo Line to Tateyama Station.
