The name "Toreiyu" is a blend of the Japanese pronunciations of the English word "train" (torein) and the French word "soleil" (soreiyu) meaning sun. The interior is equipped with reserved tatami mat seating, a bar counter stocked with locally brewed Yamagata sake, wine and juice, and footbaths for relaxing while enjoying the scenery outside the window. While aboard, take a stroll as though in a hot spring town and enjoy this new mode of Shinkansen travel.
Note: Footbaths are limited to riders with a View Ryoko Travel Package and footbath tickets must be purchased in advance.
Cars 12–14: Reserved tatami mat seating — conversation space
With large birch tables, spacious tatami mat seating, and Yamagata fruit motifs decorating the ceiling and chairs in relief, the Toreiyu Tsubasa creates a journey of elegance and comfort.
As of April 2019, cushion designs have been updated! Among the new designs is a traditional shogi-piece motif from the city of Tendo.
Note: On-board displays written in Japanese, English, and traditional Chinese are installed in cars 12 to 15. They show the occupancy status of the footbaths, route information, line advisories, and other useful notifications.
Car 15: Yuagari Lounge — a space to meet and find new things
Designed especially for those having finished a footbath, the Yuagari Lounge features tatami mat seating, tables made of sakura wood and a safflower-colored bar counter. The decorative shelving includes an organic LED panel for exhibiting goods from Yamagata. These, along with plaster walls and a small rock path create a space for meeting people and finding new things.
Car 15: Bar counter
The safflower-colored bar counter is stocked with products from Yamagata, such as local sake and fruit juice.
Note: Power outlets are also available.
Car 16: Footbaths — for relaxation
There are two safflower-colored footbaths leisurely situated on a raised stone floor. Between them is a black partition, and wooden louvers serve to create an enclosure. Gaze out the windows at the scenery while relaxing in the footbath.
New sofas installed in April 2019 were built using Tendo woodworking, a craft traditionally practiced along the train line.
Note: Footbaths are limited to riders with a View Travel Package and footbath tickets must be purchased in advance.
