We are currently implementing operation controls to ensure railway safety during windy conditions by using anemometers installed along the tracks to detect wind speed, then forcing a stop or reduction in train speed when strong winds are detected or predicted. We are also pursuing other countermeasures, such as installing wind break fences along tracks.
As research to further improve safety and implement the most appropriate operation controls and wind protection, we are conducting wind tunnel tests and developing a wind observation methodology while continuing development on our evaluation and operation control methods.
This new method has been used on lines such as the Uetsu Main Line since December 2011. |
