We would like to apologize deeply to the victims of the December 25th, 2005 “Inaho No. 14” derailment occurring between Sagoshi and Kita-Amarume stations near the No.2 Mogamigawa bridge. Our deepest prayers go out to the casualties of this accident and to their families, and we earnestly hope that all of those injured have had a speedy recovery.
On April 2nd, 2008, the Aircraft and Railway Accidents Investigation Commission of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) published its final report on its fact-finding investigation into the Uetsu Line derailment. We wish to offer our utmost respect to the Commission for its tremendous efforts in finalizing and releasing this report to the public and solemnly accept the results of the report.
We, at the East Japan Railway Company, remain committed in our efforts both to prevent any reoccurrence of such accidents in the future, and to strengthen and improve the safety of our railway transport service under the guidance of the Ministry and the authorities concerned.
We will continue our efforts to build a high quality railway service that can be used by our customers with confidence.
