    The Sannai Maruyama Site, one of the principal archaeological sites comprising the UNESCO World Heritage property Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan, offers a fascinating glimpse into Jomon life (14,000–300 BCE) through its impressive reconstructed buildings and the Jomon Jiyukan, where valuable excavated artifacts tell the story of Jomon life.
    Adjacent to the site, the Aomori Museum of Art is housed in a striking building inspired by an archaeological excavation. Explore ethereal white galleries that house celebrated works including Yoshitomo Nara's monumental Aomori-ken (Aomori dog) and Marc Chagall's stage backdrops for Aleko.

    Kuroishi is also known for the charming look of Nakamachi Komise Street, lined with wooden arcades that have been protected from the area’s heavy snowfalls since the shogunate days of the Edo Era.
