Train Approach Warning System with GPS Safety Research Laboratory

Train Approach Warning System with GPS System Overview

We have developed a train approach warning system with GPS in order to increase the safety of maintenance workers performing duties on rail sections without track circuits.

The train approach warning system with GPS converts train and maintenance worker locations to a position on a railway line using GPS location information, then alerts both parties should they come within a certain distance of each other. To ensure the reliability of the train position when using Train Approach Warning System With GPS, the system checks that the GPS measurement information of the train position transmission device matches the TID information and sends a message such as “Fault in train position transmission device” to the alarm devices of all maintenance workers on the line in the event of a mismatch to alert workers that the Train Approach Warning System with GPS is not able to operate correctly.

The system has been introduced in 25 zones as of FY2018, where it is helping to improve the safety of maintenance workers.
