When work is carried out on the tracks, a track closure procedure is used to stop trains from entering the work section while work is in progress. However, a derailment occurred at Kawasaki Station in February 2014, partly because heavy machinery used for work was outside the closed section of the tracks. To prevent an accident like this from occurring again, we have developed a system that checks the position of maintenance vehicles against information on closed section of the tracks and alerts workers when a maintenance vehicle is outside the closed sections.
The system was introduced for maintenance vehicles operated on the Saikyo Line in November 2017, and has improved safety. |
