JR-EAST Train Reservation is a convenient online service that allows you to reserve seats on Shinkansen and Limited Express trains (Ordinary Cars, Green Cars and GranClass) before you come to Japan. With this service, you will not have to worry about not being able to ride a train after you arrive in Japan.

For passengers without a JR pass, reserved tickets can now be picked up from reserved seat ticket machines at specified JR East stations. In case you have made a reservation using a JR EAST PASS, JR TOKYO Wide Pass or JAPAN RAIL PASS, please pick it up at a ticket office.

Operating Instructions

Seat Reservation

Step1, Select the pass desired for train use.

  • Reservations can be made from one month before your travel date up until 11:40p.m. (23:40, Japan Standard Time) 3 days prior to your travel date.
  • If you will not be using a pass, select “Travelers without a rail pass.”

Step4, Choose Station Ticket Window.

  • Choose the ticket window (station or travel center) where you want to collect your Reserved Seat Limited-Express Ticket.
  • Please collect your tickets by 9:00 p.m. (21:00, Japan Standard Time) on the day before your departure. Tickets cannot be collected on the day of departure

  • Choose the number of passengers (adults/children), the type of seat, and other options.

  • If you are not a registered user, you can register as a new member. In order to verify your identity, a current e-mail address and credit card to be used for payment are required.
  • Passwords cannot be reissued, so if you forget your password, please cancel your membership and then join again.

  • An e-mail will be sent automatically confirming your reservation.

  • The login button for reservations made through January 31, 2016, is green, and the button for reservations made on or after February 1, 2016, is red.

  • There are no cancellations fees charged by 11:40 p.m. (23:40, Japan Standard Time) 2 days prior to the date you travel, but cancellation request is not accepted after this time.
  • If the tickets are not collected by 9:00 p.m. (21:00 Japan Standard Time) on the day before departure, they will be automatically cancelled and cancellation fees will be charged. Cancellation fees are 310 yen for each seat.

Reservation changes

If you want to change your reservation, please complete the new reservation inquiry by 11:40 p.m. (23:40, Japan Standard Time) 3 days before the departure date. If the new reservation is successful, please cancel your old reservation before 11:40 p.m. (23:40,Japan Standard Time), 2 days before the departure date. (If old reservation are not cancelled, a cancellation fee will be applied.)

Regular Line Limited Express Services in the JR EAST Area

  • Narita Express (N'EX)
  • Izu Kyuko Line Limited Express trains (Super View Odoriko and Odoriko)
  • Chuo Line Limited Express Trains (Super Azusa, Azusa and Kaiji)
  • Joban Line Limited Express trains (HITACHI, TOKIWA)
  • Tobu Line Limited Express trains (Nikko, Kinugawa, SPACIA Nikko and SPACIA Kinugawa)
