Nagano Electric Railway
The Nagano Electric Railway provides access to the major cities and sightseeing locations in Shinshu: Nagano City, Obuse and Yudanaka. There are two lines. The Nagano Line is most commonly known for its tourist destinations while the Yashiro Line is popular for its rural scenery and transportation for locals. Both are essential for traveling in Shinshu.

Obuse is a town famous for its chestnuts. In the central district, you will find many stores offering chestnut desserts and other chestnut foods. With sidewalks lined with chestnut wood, Obuse is filled with charm. Another claim to fame here is that the famous artist Katsushika Hokusai stayed here while working on his woodblock prints.

Snow Monkeys, Popular the World Over

The snow monkey is a popular Shinshu attraction
"Snow monkeys" (Japanese macaques) are an attraction everyone should see. This is the only location in the world where wild monkeys bathe in the open air. This tour is a marvelous opportunity to observe snow monkeys in their natural habitat.
