Things to see at the festivals

As though a Warring States scroll come to life, this spellbinding event is a realistic and powerful experience

This festival recalls the valor and glory of Uesugi Kenshin, warlord of the Warring States (Sengoku) Period. To commence the Kenshin Festival, a command is given to launch a flare, and then the Butei Ceremony is conducted in remembrance of the protocol used when Kenshin set off for battle. Other features of the festival include residents dancing in the street, valiant armed samurai marching in battle procession wearing full armor, and the reenactment of one of the Battles of Kawanakajima. Onlookers will find themselves spellbound by the realistic and powerful displays that could have come out of a Warring States scroll.
