A growing number of visitors to Japan are riding trains, and to further promote the use of the railways and to make that use more convenient, JR East is introducing an Internet service that will allow overseas visitors to book seat reservations before they leave for Japan.

(1) | Specify the desired train, the reservation date, the ticket pick-up location, and the pick-up date. |
(2) | A reservation reply e-mail will be sent. |
(3) | After arriving in Japan, pick up the reserved tickets at Narita Airport, any major JR East station in the Tokyo area, or another specified location. |
* | Reservations can be made from one month before the date to be reserved and up to 17:00 (Japan time) on the third day before the date to be reserved. |
* | Membership registration is free of charge, but requires a credit card. The following credit cards can be used: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club, JCB, and View Card. |
* | To pick up your ticket, present the registered credit card and a printout of the reservation notification e-mail. |
* | Tickets can be picked up any time that ticket windows are open, but no later than 21:00 (Japan time) on the day before the travel date. |

JR East Pass This pass allows passengers to ride in reserved seating on limited express and express trains on all JR East lines, including Shinkansen lines, and to travel to and from all stations on those lines. You can select from three types of pass, with different durations to suit your period of travel. JR East also offers youth passes and flexible passes that allow free choice of travel days within a one-month period. |
