East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and Hokkaido Railway Company (JR Hokkaido) have agreed to commence mutual use of IC farecards and e-money beginning in spring 2009, with Suica, issued by JR East, and Kitaca, scheduled to be issued by JR Hokkaido in autumn 2008.

JR East and JR Hokkaido will provide services that will be popular and appreciated by customers by providing seamless travel and highly convenient settlement methods through mutual provision of services in the field of transport and e-money.

  • Through the mutual use of IC farecards for services, customers will be able to use transportation service in the Tokyo metropolitan area and the Sendai, Niigata and Sapporo IC ticket areas with either Suica or Kitaca (these will also be usable on the Tokyo Monorail, Rinkai Line, Saitama New Shuttle and Sendai Airport Access Line).
  • Kitaca e-money service is scheduled to be launched in spring 2009.
With this e-money mutual use service with Suica e-money, which is already widely used in and outside of stations mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area, member stores will accept payment with either of these cards.
Suica is a registered trademark of East Japan Railway Company.

Kitaca is a registered trademark of Hokkaido Railway Company
