JR East Group Policy on Human Rights

The JR East Group works toward the realization of a sustainable society in compliance with relevant laws and regulations, whether international or domestic, respecting human rights in our business activities, and with due consideration to local cultures and the global environment as an integrated group of enterprises supporting social infrastructure and a member of the communities it serves.

Our Point of View

In accordance with international human rights standards, the JR East Group is committed to the basic human rights of all those within our sphere, whether they be customers, members of the community, business partners, employees, or other related parties.

Scope of Policy

Applicable to all executive officers and employees of the JR East Group, this policy demands the respect of basic human rights, not allowing infringement upon those rights or unjust discrimination, nor involvement in any violation of human rights, indirectly or otherwise. Furthermore, the JR East Group also expects our business partners, including suppliers, to appreciate and support this policy as partners in the advancement of human rights.

Consideration of Human Rights

The JR East Group respects diversity of perspective, the person’s individuality and the right to privacy, respecting basic human rights without discriminating based on race, ethnicity, religion or faith, nationality, social status, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity. In establishing a safe and comfortable work environment, we will not allow any kind of harassment or behavior based on discriminatory prejudice.

Due Diligence in Human Rights

The JR East Group endeavors to prevent and/or mitigate any actual or potentially adverse effects on human rights. By implementing due diligence in human rights, we will act to identify risks that may cause or contribute to any infringement upon human rights in order to prevent, mitigate and remedy them through appropriate means.

Organization for Promoting Awareness of Human Rights

The JR East Group has established a committee for the promotion of human rights awareness under the supervision of the JR East board of directors, which is to be chaired by an executive officer. The committee is to promote efforts based on this policy to fulfill its responsibilities toward human rights.

Education and Training

The JR East Group is to provide appropriate education and training for its executive officers and employees, etc., to familiarize them with this policy and incorporate it into all business activities.

Remedial Action

The JR East Group operates a hotline and provides remedial action against any negligence in human rights available to all related parties, whether Group employees, customers, or employees of business associates. In the event that a case is reported, the department in charge will investigate it and implement appropriate remedial measures. Furthermore, we respect the privacy, dignity, and all human rights of the parties concerned, strictly protecting their confidentiality, and ensure that they do not receive unfair treatment as a result of their consultation with the hotline or their cooperation with the investigation.

Disclosure of Information and Dialogue

The JR East Group discloses corporate information through its website and other communication channels as is appropriate. We endeavor to enhance and improve our initiatives in human rights through honest and open dialogue with related parties in addition to the formulation of collaborative and cooperative relationships.

This policy has been approved by the JR East board of directors and signed by the company president and CEO.
