The Great Buddha of Kamakura is the principle object of worship at Kotoku-in Temple and is famous as an outdoor seated great Buddha. Approximately 11.3 meters tall and weighing approximately 121 tons, it is the second biggest Buddha statue in Japan after the Great Buddha (the Rushana Buddha) in Nara's Todai-ji Temple. Even now, over 750 years after it was constructed, the statue retains most of its original form and it has become the Mecca of Kamakura tourism. We also recommend that you enter the interior of the Great Buddha.

This is an ancient temple dating back to before the Kamakura Period. It features a number of important temple buildings and the principle object of worship, a Kannon with 11 heads, stands 9.18 meters tall and is said to be the tallest wooden Kannon statue in Japan. Inside the temple grounds made colorful by the various flowering plants in each of the four seasons, there is an Observation Platform from which you can look out over the sea and town of Kamakura, enabling you to enjoy the beautiful views.

This is the main street of Kamakura which is at the same time the approach road to Tsurugaoka Hachiman-gu Shrine. Many worshippers throng the dankazura (raised walkway) in the middle of the street which is very busy as it is the heart of Kamakura. You can also see historical buildings, the streets of the ancient capital, etc.

This is a time-honored beach for swimming that has continuously been popular as the Mecca of sea swimming since the Meiji Period.
