Development of Safety Portal Site Safety Research Laboratory

Development of Safety Portal Site
A safety portal site was developed to periodically deliver to employees information helpful in safety activities, form a database of that information, and allow employees to search for necessary information when needed. The site opened for JR East employees in April 2007.

The concept of the portal site is the following two points.
(1) Periodically deliver information helpful in improving worksite safety ability.
(2) Make so people at the worksite can easily search for information when needed
(Making database of information sent and easy-to-use search function)

The main content of the safety portal site is as follows.
(1) Human factors news:
Information helpful in improving worksite safety ability such as "understanding misperceptions and misjudgements" and "considering safety culture" is delivered periodically. Modifications are made so it is information supported by the worksite and on how information is presented.
(2) 4M4E analysis room:
This explains JR East 4M4E analysis introduced to pick up lessons from accidents and incidents.
(3) Accident lesson calendar:
Accidents are picked up from past railroad accidents in Japan and abroad that should be reflected on and remembered as lessons for safety. An accident that occurred on that date is posted for every day.
(4) Challenge Safety Green Light:
As part of efforts in transforming safety from something to maintain to something to strive for, the in-house newsletter "Challenge Safety Green Light" (distributed to all employees monthly) is posted as part of the internal "Challenge Safety Campaign".
