This service is provided by JR East to search for basic fares and express train charges on shinkansen (Tohoku, Akita, Yamagata, Joetsu, Hokuriku*, Tokaido and Sanyo), and limited express trains (Narita Express, Super Azusa, Azusa, Kaiji, Super View Odoriko, Odoriko, Nikko, Kinugawa and Spacia Kinugawa).

*The sections between Nagano and Kanazawa to open on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

You can search for basic fares and express train charges between major stations.

*Seats cannot be reserved for the Hokuriku (Between Joetsumyoko and Kanazawa), Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen using the "JR-EAST Train Reservation" site.

*The "NOZOMI" trains are aimed primarily at connecting major cities including Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Hiroshima, and Hakata in shorter period of time, compared to the "HIKARI" and "KODAMA" trains.

*The sections searchable for fares and limited express charges on existing Tokaido Line Limited Express trains (Super View Odoriko and Odoriko) are mainly from the Tokyo area to both Atami and Ito stations.
(Sections beyond Ito station toward Izukyu-Shimoda station and beyond Atami station toward Shuzenji station are not searchable.)

*JAPAN RAIL PASS is not valid on the "NOZOMI" trains. Those who use JAPAN RAIL PASS are advised to use the "HIKARI" or "KODAMA" trains.

·The reserved-seat limited-express tickets are available for regular season periods, as well as high-season and low-season periods. The above limited-express charges are valid for reserved ordinary car seats on ordinary trains during regular season periods. A deduction of 200 yen applies to low-season periods, while an additional 200 yen is charged for high-season periods.

Low-season periods -- Monday to Thursday during the period of January 16 to the end of February, June, September, November 1 to December 20.
(Excluding public holidays, days preceding public holidays, and alternative holidays.)

High-season periods -- March 21 to April 5, April 28 to May 6, July 21 to August 31, December 25 to January 10.

Regular season periods -- Days other than those designated as low-season or high-season periods.

·The Green Car and GranClass Car express charges are added after deducting 520 yen (same for both high and low-season periods) from the regular season reserved-seat express charges. The charge for riding the Green Car and GranClass Car is the same for children and adults.*However, for the Tohoku and Yamagata Shinkansen (from Fukushima to Shinjo on the Ou Line) and for the Tohoku and Akita Shinkansen (from Omagari to Akita on the Tazawako and Ou Lines), Green Car and GranClass Car express charges are added after subtracting 890 yen.

·Green Car and GranClass charges are calculated by subtracting 520 yen from the regular reserved seat limited express charge and then adding the Green Car or GranClass charge (adult and child charges are the same).

·The GranClass charge varies depending on the train.

·The GranClass charge when transferring between GranClass trains during a trip is the Schedule A fare for the entire GranClass trip.

·When transferring between a Green Car and a GranClass train, the charge is the total of the Green Car charge for the entire travel interval plus the amount found by subtracting the Green Car charge for the GranClass interval from the GranClass charge for that interval.

Yamagata and Akita Shinkansen Green Car Charges

The Green Car charge when using (without exiting a ticket gate along the way) both the Tohoku Shinkansen (between Tokyo and Fukushima) and the Yamagata Shinkansen (between Fukushima and Shinjo on the Ou Main Line) or both the Tohoku Shinkansen (between Tokyo and Morioka) and the Akita Shinkansen (the Tazawako Line and between Omagari and Akita on the Ou Main Line) is calculated as a total of the travel distances of the Tohoku Shinkansen and the Yamagata (or Akita) Shinkansen.

Green Car Charges on the Hokuriku Shinkansen

·Fares between Tokyo and Joetsumyoko and between Joetsumyoko and Kanazawa on the Hokuriku Shinkansen are as listed above.
·Green Car and GranClass charges between along the Tokyo-Iiyama and Itoigawa-Kanazawa intervals are provided in the table below.

·When transferring between a Green Car and a GranClass train, the charge is the total of the Green Car charge for the entire travel interval plus the amount found by subtracting the Green Car charge for the GranClass interval from the GranClass charge for that interval.

·When transferring between two GranClass trains with different GranClass charges, the charges is as follows:

  1. If transferring between Tokyo and Iiyama, the charge is calculated as the total of the Schedule A GranClass charge for the entire travel interval between Tokyo and Joetsumyoko less 1,030 yen, and the GranClass charge for the GranClass travel interval between Joetsumyoko and Kanazawa less 1,030 yen.
  2. If transferring at Joetsumyoko Station, the charge is the GranClass charges for the GranClass travel intervals between Tokyo and Joetsumyoko and between Joetsumyoko and Kanazawa less 1,030 yen from each.
  3. If transferring between Itoigawa and Kanazawa, the charge is the total of the Schedule A GranClass charge for the entire travel interval between Joetsumyoko and Kanazawa less 1,030 yen, and the GranClass charge for the GranClass travel interval between Tokyo and Joetsumyoko less 1,030 yen.

Example 1. If taking the Hakutaka Green Car from Kurobe-Unazukionsen to Nagano and then transferring to the Kagayaki GranClass at Nagano to Tokyo, the Green Car/GranClass charge would be 4,120 yen for the Green Car interval from Kurobe-Unazukionsen to Tokyo plus 5,140 yen found by subtracting the Green Car charge of 3,090 yen between Nagano and Tokyo from the Schedule A GranClass charge of 8,230 for between Nagano and Tokyo, a grand total of 9,260 yen.

Example 2. If taking the Asama GranClass between Takasaki and Nagano and then transferring to the Kagayaki GranClass at Nagano to Toyama, the GranClass charge would be 6,170 yen found by subtracting 1,030 yen from the Schedule A GranClass charge of 7,200 yen from Takasaki to Joetsumyoko plus 6,170 yen found by subtracting 1,030 yen from the Schedule A GranClass charge of 7,200 yen from Joetsumyoko to Toyama, a grand total of 12,340 yen.

Green Car charges for the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen

·The express charges marked with "*1" is applicable for travel on reserved ordinary car seats during regular season periods. The amount is the total for basic fares and express charges applicable to the segments of Tohoku Shinkansen and Yamagata Shinkansen (between Fukushima and Shinjo on the Ou Honsen Line) or Tohoku Shinkansen and Akita Shinkansen (from Omagari to Akita on the Tazawako and Ou Lines). There is a deduction of 340 yen for low-season periods and an addition of 340 yen for high-season periods.
Deduct 890 yen from regular season express charges when using non-reserved seating or the Green Car or GranClass Car in all sections. However, deduct 1,870 yen for non-reserved seating between Koriyama station and all stations on the Yamagata Shinkansen Line, or Shin-Hanamaki or Kitakami station and all stations on the Akita Shinkansen.

·The price marked with "*2" is a express charge when using non-reserved seats. The amount is 2,360 yen for reserved seats (during regular season periods).
For the sector between Tokyo and Omiya, however, the express charge is 2,570 yen (during regular season periods).

·The price marked with "*3" is a express charge when using non-reserved seats. The amount is 2,250 yen for reserved seats (during regular season periods).

·When riding in reserved-seats on the Nozomi and changing to reserved or non-reserved seats on the Hikari and Kodama, the express charges are a total of the reserved-seat express charges for all sections using the Hikari and Kodama trains, and the added charges for the Nozomi section (from 210 to 620 yen).

·When you use a non-reserved seat for the entire journey, its limited-express charge is discounted by 520 yen from the ordinary-car reserved-seat charge for regular season periods (same for both high and low-season periods). Except for the following cases; 1~3 where Tokaido & Sanyo Shinkansen Nozomi trains are used.

  1. When you use a non-reserved seat of Nozomi for the entire journey, its express charge is discounted by 520 yen from the ordinary-car reserved-seat charge of Hikari or Kodama train for regular season periods.
  2. When you make a connection of trains using a Nozomi non-reserved seat and a reserved seat of Hikari or Kodama, the amount of the limited-express charges is identical to that for reserved seats of Hikari or Kodama for the entire journey.
  3. When you make a connection of trains using a Nozomi non-reserved seat and a non-reserved seat of Hikari or Kodama, the amount of limited-express charges is identical to that for non-reserved seats of Hikari or Kodama for the entire journey.

·On the Tohoku Shinkansen Hayabusa and Hayate (expect for some), on the Akita Shinkansen Komachi, and on the Tokaido Line Limited Express Super View Odoriko trains all seats require reservations.
